One person, a world of AI, and a deliberate bet on what comes next.

I’m not a massive agency. I’m a senior business analyst and consultancy owner who refused to be left behind by the AI revolution. This is the honest record of how I’m rebuilding my professional life—and how you can too.

Why This Podcast Exists

The world has changed, and so has the economy. For many of us in our 40s and 50s, the careers we built over decades no longer feel as secure as they once did. Experience counts for less than it used to. The pace of change is relentless. And AI — depending on who you listen to — is either going to save your career or end it.

I’ve spent 25 years helping organisations navigate change. This is the most significant shift I’ve seen — and I decided to document it from the inside. I got tired of the noise. So I started Zero to AI to document what’s actually happening when a mid-career professional decides to stop watching from the sidelines and start building something new.

This podcast is my honest account of that process. Not a highlight reel. Not a sales pitch. The real thing. An expert’s field notes — what’s working, what’s oversold, and where the real leverage is.

Who am I

I’m a father, consultant, and relentless learner based in New Zealand. My professional background is in digital strategy, business analysis, and consulting. For over 25 years I worked with organisations to improve processes, design systems, and implement technology that helped people work more effectively.

Along the way I picked up a Master’s degree, postgraduate certificates, and industry certifications in project management, business analysis, and change management. On paper, I had it figured out.

But like a lot of professionals I know, I’ve felt the ground shift. The safe path stopped feeling safe. And instead of waiting for certainty that wasn’t coming, I chose reinvention.

  • Hi, I’m Steve

Steve Wilson AI consultant and founder of Zero to AI focused on practical artificial intelligence learning and mid-career reinvention.
  • Who Zero to AI is For

Zero to AI is designed primarily for people who built their careers before artificial intelligence became mainstream.

Professionals, consultants, analysts, managers, educators, and business owners who recognise that AI will reshape their fields but want a practical way to engage with it.

Most of the people who follow the journey have something in common. They are curious. They are thoughtful about their work. And they are looking for ways to adapt their skills rather than abandon them.

AI does not replace experience, judgement, or domain expertise. In many cases it amplifies them. The challenge is learning how to integrate these tools into existing ways of thinking and working.

That is the space Zero to AI explores.

  • What Zero to AI is

Zero to AI is not a course, and it is not a typical tech podcast.

It is a learning journey built around experimentation and practical application.

Each podcast episode explores a specific idea, tool, or concept related to artificial intelligence and how it affects professional work. The conversations are grounded in real use cases rather than theory.

Many episodes are supported by companion articles that expand on the ideas discussed and provide prompts or exercises for people who want to explore further.

The goal is not to teach AI as a purely technical skill.

The goal is to show how AI can become a practical capability that improves the way people think, analyse information, make decisions, and produce work.

Over time, the episodes form a narrative: a progression from deliberate experimentation to applied professional capability..

  • What you will learn along the way

As the journey progresses, Zero to AI explores practical questions such as:

  • How can AI be used to accelerate research and analysis?
  • How can professionals design workflows that combine human insight with AI assistance?
  • What does it mean to build a “personal AI stack” that supports your daily work?
  • How can AI help with writing, strategy development, and knowledge synthesis?
  • Where are the real limitations and risks of these systems?
  • And perhaps most importantly, how do you move from simply experimenting with tools to actually integrating them into how you work?

These are not abstract questions. They are practical challenges faced by professionals across many industries.

Zero to AI approaches them through experimentation, reflection, and shared learning.

  • From personal exploration to professional application

As the experiments documented in Zero to AI progressed, something interesting began to happen.

The same ideas being explored in personal workflows were increasingly relevant to organisations.

Companies and teams were asking many of the same questions: how to integrate AI responsibly, how to improve decision making with better information, and how to redesign processes to take advantage of new capabilities.

That work led to the creation of Changeable, a consulting practice focused on helping organisations apply artificial intelligence in practical, responsible ways.

While Changeable works directly with organisations, Zero to AI remains the personal exploration that sits behind it. It is the place where ideas are tested, tools are explored, and lessons are shared openly.

The two are connected, but they serve different purposes. Zero to AI is about learning. Changeable is about implementation.

  • Join me on the journey

Reinvention isn’t tidy. It doesn’t follow a straight line. But it is possible — and for a lot of us, it’s become necessary.

By sharing my journey openly, I want to shorten yours. Learn what works, skip the mistakes, and find the confidence to carve your own path.

How this all gets made

Zero to AI is a one-person operation — and I want to be upfront about that. There’s no team. It’s me: researching, recording, writing, editing, and publishing.

What makes it possible at this scale is AI. I use a suite of AI tools to handle research, content production, audio editing, and distribution — the same tools and workflows I talk about on the podcast. When I say AI can genuinely change what one person is capable of, I’m not theorising. I’m proving it every single week to make this show.

That’s actually the whole point. If I can run a weekly podcast, a blog, and a consulting business as one person in regional New Zealand — with the right tools and the right mindset — so can you.
