What makes a good project?
Choose something close enough to your real work to matter. The project should be useful, explainable and worth documenting.
It matters to someone real.
Pick a manager, client, team, customer group, board, committee or professional audience whose opinion matters to the work.
It takes meaningful effort.
Choose a task that would normally take serious manual work, not a tiny prompt experiment.
AI makes a clear contribution.
You should be able to explain what AI helped with, such as research, structure, drafting, comparison or refinement.
You can document the result.
Save the before state, after state, workflow and evidence of value while the work is still fresh.
The simple workflow
Use a four-step pattern. The tools can change, but the sequence keeps the work grounded and reviewable.
- Research Use AI to gather background, examples, sources or options.
- Analyse Use AI to compare, structure, challenge or clarify the material.
- Draft Use AI to produce the first version of the output.
- Refine Use your judgement to check accuracy, tone, usefulness and risk.
What to document
The evidence is what makes the project useful later. Keep a short record of the work as you go.
- Before state What did the work look like before AI support?
- AI contribution What did AI help you research, structure, draft or improve?
- Human judgement What did you check, decide, interpret or take responsibility for?
- After state What became faster, clearer, stronger or easier to explain?
- Evidence of value What shows the work improved?

Choose a task that would normally take a few hours or more. Use AI to help research, structure, draft or improve it. Save the before and after versions. Then write five bullet points explaining what changed.
